As a big fan of Mahatma Gandhi, when I read the lines below I was truly delighted. I have not seen such a beautiful, crystal-clear explanation of Ahimsa. Sant Dnyaneshwar - the master, gives wonderful examples and tells us what Ahimsa is and what Ahimsa is not.

He says there are people who will not eat food, because eating food is Himsa. This in turn hurts themselves (keeping ourselves hungry is a kind of Himsa if it hurts us). This is Himsa.

The way a bee softly sits on a lotus, taking care that flower is not pressed upon or damaged to the least,
In the same way, an Ahimsa person, knowing that there are many minute creatures on the road, in his kindness, very softly places his feet on ground(as if to hide them) while walking.

The road he walks he fills it with his kindness, the direction in which he looks, he fills it up with love and he spreads his own life below others' life as a sheet for their comfort (so much he cares for other lives)

He gives many examples - a cat when holds her kitten with her teeth in love, it does not hurt kitten. There will be so much love and softness in the way she holds the kitten.
Similarly, when an Ahimsa person kindly keeps his feet on the ground, the creatures beneath actually feel happy, there will be such tenderness in his walk.

His love (his love for the other person) walks forth and then words follow. His kindness appears before his words actually come out.
(You understand other persons love towards you even if he does not talk).

He tries to avoid talking coz he always thinks if he says some words, would they hurt anyone.

And if someone requests him to talk, he talks with so much love that can be compared with the love of a mother or father towards their child.

In this way, his words would be true, kind, few but very sweet,
words like play of nectar.

He would not even stare at anyone coz it may hurt the other person.

If some mosquito or similar creature is troubling him, he does not even try to put them away. He would not ever show any bad expression towards any animal.
